Whitewater Valley Creative Writing Competition at Indiana University East

There are presently no open calls for submissions.

The Whitewater Valley Creative Writing Competition is limited to high school students (Grades 9-12) in central eastern Indiana and central western Ohio, including home-schooled students.

Submit one story (fiction) up to 3,500 words, one work of creative nonfiction up to 3,500 words, and/or three to five poems of any length. Prose submissions should be double-spaced, poetry single-spaced, all in standard font (11 or 12 pt., Times or similar). Submit previously unpublished work only. Simultaneous submissions are fine.  You are welcome to submit once under any or all of the categories (poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction). Do not include any identifiers (name, school, teacher, etc.) anywhere on your work, just the title (and page numbers, if needed).

Any topic or form is fine; we are interested in fresh imagery, convincing voice(s), and unexpected detail. Give us your best writing--experimental work and creative risk-taking are applauded! Deadline: March. 21, 2020.

The Whitewater Valley Creative Writing Competition is sponsored by the English Department at Indiana University East. For more information, check out creative writing at IU East or contact faculty member Brian Brodeur, Creative Writing Coordinator, at bbrodeur@iue.edu.
